Our KMB-1 is starting to act up a bit. I will turn it on and zero the table and z axis, then for unknown reasons the power will shut off. Not all the power- the main will stay on, but I would have to hit the power button again on the controller to restart it. This has done this before, about a year ago, but then it worked fine over the winter. Now it is doing this again. Air pressure is around 90 PSI, and there was a bad connector on one of the boards that was redone so it fits better.

Any ideas? It first did this this summer just a few days ago (MN, heat was in the 90's and humid), but last night it did it also and it was only 70 something.

Thanks in advance.

You can hand type the G-Code in a text editor and upload to the machine.

Or look for a trial program on the internet.

I would check the cabling from the PC but also could be a bad rs232 board in the machine.

I have a KMB1-BX and need help with a g code question. I have a part I need to do that is an ellipse, but it has an undercut around the outside edge. I have a t-slot cutter that I will use, but in conversational programming, you can do an ellipse, but when I want to do this undercut, I can't make the machine position outside the area I want cut, z down, THEN move in to start the ellipse cut. It will only do a plunge cut down, then start xy axes movement to complete ellipse.

I would love to be able to do this in g-code, but right now the only way I could do it is with the g-code editor in the machine itself (do not have a CAM program to create g-code). Does anyone have any suggestion on this type of hand programming?

Thanks,
Tim

Help!

I have a KM3P, S/N SDI-8004047C with Ultimax Controls (master v8.60 Turbo).  I am having serial port troubles.

Downloading to a PC (Win XP running Hyperterm through a USB-Serial adapter) seems to work just fine using 9600 Baud, Xon/Xoff, 8 Bits, 1 Stop, No parity (8-1-N).  In converstational mode, I can "print" the program or the directory, and "download/send" the program.  What is received on the PC looks normal with no dropouts or odd characters.

The problem is with upload.  Using the same settings, I get "character framing errors."  I've tried using baud rates down to 300 baud and CTS/RTS handshaking, but aways get the same error.

In NC mode, I have similar (bad) luck.  I can download OK, but no uploads.  I get a combination of "Parity Errors," and "Framing Errors."  I did switch to 9600 Baud 7-E-1 protocol as suggested by the Hurco Support FAQ, and have tried baud rates down to 300 but it doesn't make a difference.

Occasionally, I will get a few lines (up to 4 NC blocks) uploaded before the error occurs.

A significant piece of information may be that my machine came without an internal cable between the DB-15 mail connector (that goes to the two round 8-pin bulkhead connectors) and the 40-Pin PCB connector on the serial board.  I built one using the pinout information in the RS-232 FAQ on the Hurco website.  All of the lines coming from the round bulkhead connector (TX,RX,SGnd,RTS,CTS) are connected.  DTR is not connected to anything.  Tcable is shielded and grounded.

I get the same behavior for either Port 1 or Port 2.

I have also used ConnectCNC from www.connectcnc-dnc.com in place of HyperTerm with essentially the same results.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
-joel

I am not sure which cable and board you are referring to?

Thanks for the reply I started the machine this evening and it was not working . I opened the rightside door and removed the data cable that was hooked to the right side of the board . The length of cable was coiled up to the right side of the board inside the cabinet. Could this have caused interference ? The machine ran OK after this . Will have run tomorrow to see if all is still well. Thanks

Try adjusting the amps. If problem persists then it will most likely be an amp or motor. Disconnect the bus connector from one amp at a time and see if the other 2 move normally. Process of elimination should isolate the faulty axis. You will then have to determine if it is the Amp or Motor.

I need more info on Z, when does it do this?

PS I have your manual.

1984 KMB1m updated boards running in conversational mode.  The xyz will only move 1 time, then I have to press check operate to make any of them move again. Also it will not run a program
and the z moves up and down  about .125 like it's hunting. The machine will move xyz in G code mode normally. This problem occured after it was real hot here. Need help to get running again.        Thanks.
